Do chiropractic treatments hurt? Normally
they do not. Sometimes worrying that an adjustment might be painful will keep away the
very person who needs the treatment the most. If pain is not present in normal movement,
the sensation of a chiropractic adjustment is not painful. Instead, there is usually a
sensation of relief or release of pain. We also utilize several techniques
and will tailor a plan that is comfortable for you.
Why do my joints pop and crack when I get my adjustment?
"Popping and cracking" are caused by sudden changes in gaseous pressures. The
rapid change in pressure is what causes the noises.
I previously had surgery on my back, but the pain has returned.
Can I see a chiropractor? Yes. A very conservative approach will be used. There are
several low force chiropractic techniques available that combined with specific physical
therapies, can help pain and discomfort. Many times, conservative treatment can prevent
the necessity of repeat operations.
I've heard that once you go to a chiropractor, you have to go
forever. Is that true? No. Each individual responds differently to care. We will
tailor a treatment plan to your specific condition and response to care. However,
once your symptoms disappear, you may be tempted to quit care. It is important to
understand that even though your symptoms are gone, this does not necessarily mean that
your problems are corrected. Any questions or problems should be
discussed with the physician.
My daughter is always complaining about neck soreness and
headaches. Do chiropractors treat children?
Definitely. We use only low force
techniques and very conservative treatment. We also are very careful about
x-raying children. It is not always necessary for children, depending on their areas of
complaint. We always make every effort to limit the risk of exposure for all of our
patients, but particularly children.

Sometimes when my neck is hurting, I get someone to
"Pop" it for me. Sometimes I can even get it to move myself. Is this safe? First, the correct term is adjustment. Secondly, the answer to your
question is no. This is not safe. When an adjustment is performed by an experienced
chiropractor, the doctor controls where the bones move in order to properly align the
vertebrae. When an untrained person adjusts you, or someone else untrained
"pops" your neck or back, the bones will move to a position that may not be
optimum for your health. This can cause a multitude of symptoms if positioned incorrectly.
This is particularly true because when you or someone untrained "pops" you,
it is generally for comfort and not necessarily for proper
clinical technique. Self-adjustment is highly discouraged.
I would like to be under chiropractic care, but I don't have
insurance and cannot afford to pay each visit. Do you have payment plans available? Yes, we can structure a payment plan on an individual basis to allow you
to make monthly payments in the event of hardship while you are under care. Our fees are
standard, no matter what your financial situation may be, with or without available
insurance reimbursement.
